At Richmond Steel Recycling, safety and environmental responsibility are our top priorities. For this reason, we cannot accept certain hazardous or non-recyclable materials. Please review the list below to ensure your items meet our standards for scrap acceptance.
Airbags
Due to the risk of explosion, airbags cannot be accepted in our recycling facilities.
Ammunition or Explosives
We do not accept any form of live ammunition or explosives due to safety hazards.
Antifreeze
Antifreeze is a hazardous liquid that must be disposed of through specialized recycling programs, not at metal recycling yards.
Asphalt
Asphalt cannot be processed in metal recycling operations and should be disposed of through appropriate construction waste facilities.
Closed Containers
Any sealed containers, barrels, or drums must be punctured and triple rinsed to remove contaminants before acceptance.
Concrete
Concrete is non-recyclable in metal yards and should be disposed of through proper construction debris disposal services.
Dirt
Dirt is not accepted, as it contaminates metal recycling processes and should be disposed of elsewhere.
Electronic Scrap
We do not accept electronic scrap as part of our metal recycling services. These should be recycled through e-waste facilities.
Flammable Materials
Highly flammable materials pose a significant safety risk and are not accepted in our facilities.
Fluids
Any fluid-containing items, including hydraulic fluids or oils, must be drained before recycling.
Fluorescent Lights
Fluorescent lights contain hazardous chemicals like mercury and should be recycled at a specialized facility, not in metal scrap.
Gasoline
Gasoline is highly flammable and hazardous. It must be drained and disposed of properly before recycling associated parts.
Gear Oil
Gear oil, like other fluids, must be drained from parts before they can be accepted for recycling.
Glass
Glass is non-recyclable in our facilities and should be taken to a specialized glass recycling or waste facility.
Grease
Grease and other oils contaminate metal recycling processes and must be cleaned from parts before acceptance.
Hazardous Waste or Chemicals
Hazardous waste, including chemicals, poses significant risks and cannot be accepted at our recycling yards.
Hydraulic Fluid
Hydraulic fluid must be drained from any machinery or parts before they can be recycled.
Oils
All oils must be completely drained from motors, machinery, and other parts before drop-off.
Paint Cans
Paint cans, unless fully emptied and cleaned, cannot be accepted due to the toxic residue they may contain.
Radioactive Materials
We do not accept any materials with radioactive contamination due to severe health and safety risks.
Refrigerants
Refrigerants, often found in HVAC systems, must be properly removed by certified professionals before recycling.
RV’s, Motorhomes,
Camping Trailers
Refrigerants, often found in HVAC systems, must be properly removed by certified professionals before recycling.
Rubber
Rubber materials, such as hoses or tires, are not accepted in metal recycling facilities and should be disposed of elsewhere.
Tires
Tires must be removed from vehicles and machinery before recycling the metal parts.
Wood
Wood is not accepted in metal recycling facilities and should be directed to proper waste management or recycling centers.
Yard Debris
Organic yard debris, like branches and leaves, is not accepted and should be disposed of through green waste recycling programs.
Other Non-Metal Materials
Non-metal materials like plastic, rubber, or wood are not suitable for metal recycling and should be properly separated and disposed of in the appropriate facilities.
